The Oklahoma Insurance Department is reaching out to Cushing residents affected by Sunday’s 5.0 magnitude earthquake. Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak toured the damage Monday.
Gov. Mary Fallin today issued the following statement on action taken by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in response to the 5.0 magnitude earthquake Sunday evening in the Cushing area:
Gov. Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for Payne County due to a magnitude 5.0 earthquake that occurred Sunday evening near the city of Cushing.
Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak wants to alleviate concerns about six-month moratoriums on purchasing earthquake insurance. The concerns were raised after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Pawnee on Sept. 3.
The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is committed to helping those affected by one of the strongest earthquakes in state history. Gov. Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency in Pawnee County, the area rocked hardest by Saturday’s 5.6 magnitude quake.

Due to the earthquake activity Oklahoma has experienced today, emergency managers and other key agencies and organizations are responding to damage reports.
